In February 2020, Ventia was requested to support the repatriation of the first Australian citizens from the Wuhan province following outbreak of what was later to become the Covid-19 pandemic. Ventia commenced planning against three potential sites, and within 72 hours fully operationalised & mobilised the ManigurMa Northern Territory Government accommodation precinct (later to become the Howard Springs Centre of National resilience) which had not been occupied for several years in preparation of the first arrival of 266 Australian residents including 90 children.
Collaboration with the Department of Defence and Foreign Affairs & Trade, Australian Border Force, Australian Federal Police, Northern Territory Government, and associated Health providers commenced to establish the concept of operation. In conjunction Ventia assumed the responsibility of coordination and mobilisation of a multidisciplinary team to provide a fit for purpose facility and turnkey solution to deliver a full range of services to the eventual 450 arriving residents, and at the height of operation was provisioning around 750 meals per day. This was achieved during a period of high uncertainty, national public health risk and supply chain interruptions. Following the operating rhythm blueprint established the facility would further support the repatriation and quarantine of hundreds of Australian citizens over a 2-year period during the height of the pandemic
In March 2023 a severe flooding event that caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and community facilities, in the remote communities of Kalkarindji, Daguragu and Yarralin in the Northern Territory saw the evacuation of impacted residents whilst damage assessment and initial clean-up efforts were enacted by the Northern Territory Government.
In the weeks following and once the initial flooding danger had subsided, Ventia were engaged by the Northern Territory Government at 72hours notice to mobilise a team to the communities located in extreme remote Northwest to provide security whilst the township was unoccupied. The timing of this event coincided with unprecedented capacity and capability challenges of the Northern Territory security market to respond, placing significant pressure on the mobilisation effort. Access to a national supply chain and large geographically dispersed workforce enabled the rapid mobilisation timeframes to be met.
During the 12-week support duration, continuity of service was underpinned by collaboration and integration with the emergency response and essential workforce mobilised, and ongoing relations with the Traditional owner groups, allowing seamless and timely reporting to the Emergency Response & Recovery Coordinator on matters of situational awareness.
Creating pathways to long-term employment
Established in 2015, Ventia's TRECCA program (Training, Recruitment, Employment, Care and Career Advancement) supports First Nations people into sustainable employment through a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach.
TRECCA has facilitated more than 1,600 First Nations hires nationally and provides ongoing mentoring, training and career development opportunities. In the Northern Territory, the program delivers tailored pre-employment and transition-to-work initiatives that help remove barriers to employment, build workforce readiness and create pathways into long-term careers.
Through initiatives such as the Deadly Network mentoring program and Indigenous-led employment support, TRECCA is helping create lasting social and economic outcomes for First Nations communities.
Veterans and Defence Families
As a Veteran Employer of Choice recognised by the Department of Veteran Affairs we’re committed to the ongoing employment and support of Defence personnel both past and present, and their families.
In 2024 we signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Northern Territory government to work together to deliver tailored services and support for Territory Veterans’ and their families. Our goal is to ensure the ~ 250 Australian Defence Force Personnel that transition out of the military while posted in the Territory, stay in the Territory.
