Description

Ventia manages a diverse range of Auckland Council’s assets – 77,000 in total – in the Tahi and Wha regions. Initially managing public buildings, libraries, community halls, parks and sports fields, the scope of work has been expanded to include streetscape services like vegetation control, urban cleaning, and litter collection. 

Regular inspections ensure quality urban infrastructure, enhance amenity for residents, confirm compliance with contract requirements, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Ventia’s use of technology and eco-friendly innovations like electric mowers aligns with the Council’s sustainability goals, while local partnerships ensure long-term benefits for the community, including Māori participation.

Scope of work

• Facilities Management: Maintenance of 650 council-owned buildings, including community halls and other public facilities, such as over 340 public toilets.
• Streetscape services: Maintenance of gardens and vegetation, cleaning and litter collection in town centres.
• Open space management: Maintenance and renovation of 1,500 open spaces including 1,500 parks, 386 playgrounds, and 5 BMX tracks.
• Fleet services: Maintain 55 vehicles of diverse types, part of Auckland Council’s fleet
• Sustainability focus: Maximising eco-friendly methods and materials to reduce environmental impact and support the City’s sustainability goals.

Project outcomes

• Improved amenity and safety: Better quality, safer amenities and public spaces
• Increased sustainability: More efficient asset management practices are prolonging the life of public infrastructure. The introduction of eco-friendly innovations, materials and technology – such as AI-guided electric-mowers – has reduced the City’s environmental footprint and increased its sustainability.
• Better community outcomes:  A focus on collaborative partnerships with local boards and community groups, including in procurement and employment, has led to stronger community engagement and supported our continuous improvement
• Māori engagement: Ventia has advanced Auckland Council’s Māori engagement objectives, including advancing Māori identity and wellbeing and supporting kaitiakitanga (guardianship), by fostering processes that directly engage Māori communities and businesses.
