From roads and rail, to hospitals and city-owned facilities; contaminated waterways to bushfire ravaged communities; and energy and water networks to critical telecommunication networks – Ventia works behind the scenes to make infrastructure work for the communities of New South Wales.
We offer a large range of services for major infrastructure across the state including road network maintenance and incident response, essential facilities and asset management.
This includes all of Sydney's major roadways and tunnels, including the Lane Cove Tunnel and M2, M5 South West, Eastern Distributor and Cross City Tunnel, as well as supporting stages two and three of the M4 smart motorway project through our intelligent transport systems team. We also manage a 30-year maintenance contract on the Sydney Airport Rail Line, a 10km rail link from Sydney Airport to Central Station that includes a 4km rock tunnel and 6km soft ground tunnel.
Our telecommunications team rolled out the nbn throughout New South Wales, carefully managing programs of work within densely populated city centres, through heritage protected streetscapes and in regional and remote parts of the state. The team are also supporting the rollout of 5G technology and working with the NSW Telco Authority to expand the Public Safety Network through its Critical Communication Enhancements Program.
Ventia has a proud history of partnering with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Australia-wide, a relationship spanning three decades. We are an experienced facilities and asset manager and a Top 10 Defence industry partner. In NSW, we deliver Defence Base Services, Defence Maintenance & Support Services, and National Clothing Store Services. We also operate and maintain Australia’s largest private firefighting service to support the ADF.
Our long-term relationships also extend to our industrial clients. For the past two decades, we have worked closely with BlueScope Steel at its Port Kembla facility, delivering rail maintenance services to 78 kilometres of rail infrastructure in the Port Kembla Steelworks. Our specialist engineering consultancy, Engineering Services team (formerly ICD Asia Pacific) is also headquartered in Western Sydney. The team offers a full suite of services for the asset lifecycle – from design through to operation and end-of-life services for facilities across a range of industries. We have been providing these specialist services since 1970, and to date, have supported over 26,000 projects.
With many large projects under our belt in NSW, we’ve spent a lot of time consulting with communities to reduce any negative impact of our work on people and environment, and have come up with innovative ways to reduce noise and dust. We support almost half of NSW’s public housing residents through our contract with the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, and we’ve worked on major remediation projects, including at Sydney Harbour’s Barangaroo, the Hunter River and HMAS Platypus.
Our teams live and work in many different localities across NSW and Australia and are always keen to be involved in their local community. We mentor school children through ABCN, helping the next generation to achieve their potential, regardless of where they grew up. Our teams also support community sporting clubs, victims of natural disasters and drought, and many other grassroots initiatives.
One example of a community-led initiative occurred in the Kempsey region of NSW whilst we were connecting premises to the national broadband network. In partnership with Kempsey Shire Council and Real Futures - a majority Aboriginal owned and controlled company - our telecommunications team worked on a safe space for the community. With the help of locally employed Aboriginal workers, an area around the footbridge that links South Kempsey and West Kempsey was cleared and an upgraded picnic area was built beside the boat ramp to revive the family feel of the area from years gone by.
Sydney is also home our training facilities and our National Call Centre (NC3), servicing clients Australia-wide.
Our smart, customised solutions for Transurban help keep traffic moving safely for road users of the Eastern Distributor and Cross City Tunnel, two of Sydney’s most critical motorway assets. We provide incident response and traffic control as well as maintenance services. A highlight of this contract has been redesigning a standard truck mounted attenuator (placed between oncoming traffic and workers to keep them safe) so that it met height restrictions in the tunnel and depot. The result was a world-first sliding attenuator that is safer, lower in height, shorter in length and faster to deploy. Read more here.
We combined our decades of experience and the latest technology to successfully remediate the former industrial site that now boasts the iconic Barangaroo precinct. Innovative approaches included using new engineering technology for odour control enclosures, computer modelling for planning, and a new multipurpose drone to capture environmental data.
