Ventia has been appointed by the Country Fire Authority (CFA) to start decommisioning works at the former Fiskville Training Campus, 95km west of Melbourne.
In the first major step, the Practical Area Drill (PAD), where hot firefighting training was completed, will be demolished.
The works will involve the demolition of all training props and other structures, underground pipework and the underground petroleum storage system infrastructure within the training area.
The former accommodation areas, learning centre and other structures outside of the PAD area are not impacted by these works.
Ventia Utility Services Executive General Manager, Gordon Taylor said: "We're pleased to work with CFA to undertake the important first step towards the remediation of the site."
"The project will be completed by our experts in asset closure management and environmental services. Our Asset Closure Services team will manage the safe and controlled demolition of the complex site infrastructure, while our market-leading Environmental Services team will ensure the secure and safe handling of demolished materials on the site."
Works have commenced and are expected to be completed by January 2018.
Ventia has successfully completed over 140 remediation projects over 20+ years, including Australia's largest and most complex environmental projects.
