Indigenous Employment Coordinator Bessie Fredberg joined Byron Davis from our Indigenous employment team, TRECCA on a visit to Mount Gambier to promote upcoming employment opportunities with Ventia to the local Indigenous community.
Bessie says they spent a couple of days meeting with traditional owners, health organisations and Job Active providers to better understand the local job market.
We were able to share with the community how we might help to overcome some of the barriers to employment for Indigenous people in the area, Bessie says.
"We connected with Robyn, a proud Boandik women from Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation as a cultural first connect to the limestone coast area."

Burrandies is a community centre where Boandik people can meet for cultural gatherings and shared learning around the yarning circle.
They also have a homework centre and trade shed for tutoring and upskilling students and job seekers.
Bessie says that Robyn was excited at the opportunity to partner with Ventia and help out where she can.
Barrandies services include cultural heritage surveys, labour hire services, assistance in promoting employment opportunities and the use of training rooms and facilities.
